Due to numerous requests from the school for parents and family members to follow our rules on the use of the staff car park being ignored, recent near misses and damage being caused to staff cars by persons that are not supposed to be parking there, we asked WCBC to undertake a review and produce a report on the use of the car park. We have received the report that includes recommendations and actions for us to take, with the report being discussed at a governors meeting last night.
While referring to some positive aspects around the use of the car park i.e. use of signs and bollards by the entrance and exit, clear signage of the one way system in and out of the car park and permission for blue badge holders to use the car park, the report also refers to aspects that cause concern and puts children, staff and other adults in danger. Some of these include:
- people without blue badges / permission parking in the car park
- parents using the car park as a drop off / picking up area
- parents making U-Turns and dropping children off in the entrance / exit
- parents using the car park to drive through to rejoin Stansty Road having dropped their children off by the side of the road
- people that have permission to park there walking out through the entrance while vehicles are turning in instead of using the pop up gate to join the walking paths
Some of the recommendations include:
- keeping the gates closed during the day / or looking at the possible use of some sort of a barrier by the entrance / exit
- reminding parents and families of the correct use of the car park
- people with permission to use the car park to use the pop up gate for entrance to the path around the school instead of walking back through the car park entrance gate
To ensure everyone’s safety on school grounds, we ask you again not to use the car park unless you have a blue badge or permission to do so and to share this information with any member of the family that is responsible for bringing children to school or collecting them at the end of the day. We will be monitoring the use of the car park.
Diolch yn fawr,
Osian Jones
