Fe rydych yn ymwybodol, mae Plas Coch yn ysgol gyfrwng Gymraeg ac un o’n disgwyliadau yw fod y disgyblion, unwaith maent wedi caffael yr iaith, yn gwneud pob ymdrech i siarad Cymraeg efo staff a’u cyd ddisgyblion o amgylch yr ysgol. Dros y blynyddoedd diwethaf, mi yden ni wedi gweld dirywiad yn yr agwedd hon gyda Estyn yn nodi fel argymhelliad yn adroddiad arolwg diwethaf yr ysgol fod angen annog y disgyblion i siarad Cymraeg yn gyson mewn sefyllfaoedd ffurfiol ac anffurfiol. Rydym wedi trio nifer o wahanol strategaethau ac er bod cyfnodau o welliant, yn aml nid yw rhain yn cael eu cynnal.
Felly mae’r llysgenhadon iaith am roi system newydd ar waith, fydd gobeithio yn cynyddu’r defnydd o’r iaith ymysg y disgyblion. Cafodd y system newydd ei chyflwyno i’r disgyblion yn ystod yr eisteddfod ysgol bore ma, gyda brwdfrydedd y disgyblion yn amlwg! Mae manylion yn y ddau boster isod – bydd yna hefyd wobrau arbennig (holwch eich plentyn amdanynt!) i’r disgyblion anelu tuag atynt. Byddwn yn adolygu’r system yn gyson, gan wneud unrhyw addasiadau os bydd angen wrth fynd ymlaen ac yn cymryd i ystyriaeth oedran a gallu ieithyddol y disgyblion wrth ei gweinyddu.
As you are aware, Plas Coch is a Welsh medium school and one of our expectations is that pupils, once they have acquired the language, use it when speaking with staff and other pupils around the school. Over the last few years, we have seen a decline in this aspect, with one of Estyn’s recommendations from the last inspection being to encourage the pupils to speak Welsh regularly in formal and informal situations. We have tried various strategies and while there has periods of progress, they are not always sustained.
Therefore, the language ambassadors have come up with a new system, that will hopefully increase the use of Welsh by the pupils. The new system was introduced to a hall full of enthusiastic pupils during the eisteddfod this morning! There are details on the posters below – there are also special prizes for the pupils to work towards (ask your child about them!). We will review the system regularly and make any necessary amendments as we go on and will also take into consideration the age and the language ability of the pupils.
